Ian Milne is the son of Bobby Milne and nephew of the late Jack.
Both famous railway men in Portadown, once referred to as the "The
Hub of the North" when most freight and passenger travel moved
by rail.
In 1989 Ian qualified with the National Association of Funeral
Directors Diploma in Funeral Directing following completion of the
relevant course, sitting the appropriate exams and gaining practical
experience with a funeral firm.
As a small family business we take pride in our personal service
combined with care and compassion. Being inextricably linked to
the Church and Christ's teaching we are given insight into the needs
of loved ones at a time of bereavement.
Background
In 1987 Ian qualified with the National Association of Funeral Directors
Diploma in Funeral Directing following
completion of the relevant course, sitting the appropriate exams
and gaining practical experience with a funeral firm.
Ian is a family man and it was in conjunction with his wife Valerie
that the decision was taken to build a funeral home and establish
the business. They have three children Stuart, Rebecca and Andrew
who although young are already a great support within the family
unit. In fact, Stuart has recently become the youngest ever person
to complete the foundation exam in funeral Directing from the National
Association of Funeral Directors. He hopes to join the business
in the next few months after seeing practice in England.
Professional Bodies
Ian holds the Diploma in Funeral Directing is a member of the Society
of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors, The National Association
of Funeral Directors and is currently Chairman for the British Institute
of Funeral Directors in this region. He is a member of the Institute
of Directors.
We were gratified to receive recently membership of the Guild of
Master Craftsmen which is awarded after previous clients are consulted.
This allows Ian Milne & Sons to join such elite companies as
Harrods of London and Aston martin. We believe we are the first
funeral firm in Ireland to be awarded such membership.
We recommend that when dealing with any funeral service organisation
you ask to speak to the owner and inspect the British Institute
of Funeral Directors licence to practise. As every other profession
deems a licence mandatory so should the funeral sector.
Associations
We are a member of the following Associations;

Directors

since 1905 and is the longest established association within
the profession. The National Association of Funeral Directors'

comply, has been established for over 20 years.

Our Business and other Activities
As a small family business we take pride in our personal service
backed up by care and compassion. Being inextricably linked to the
Church and Christ's teaching we are given insight into the needs
of loved ones at a time of bereavement. The business is much more
than a funeral firm, we like to think of ourselves as a community
service organisation.
Community
Having only recently completed the first purpose built funeral home
in the Craigavon area, we feel committed to our community, and this
again is reinforced by our ongoing sponsorship of bowling and other
activities. We believe that tradition and progress can go hand in
hand and that genuine family Christian values can, even in the twenty
first century, permeate the funeral business which bears our name.
